Description

Hope Made Visible: a definition for design

The simple question, “Where does it all go?” has led many of us to look more closely at the incredible amount of waste that’s produced today, specifically in the Interior Design industry. More importantly, it demands our attention to address the larger issue of what to do about it. When we choose a fabric for curtains or a sofa, we never see the unending stream of material samples, often expensive, well-made fabrics, that end up as waste in landfills.

Eight years ago, designer Eve Weinberg became curious about the destiny of piles of fabrics recently pulled from displays at a designer showroom. You may imagine the shock upon learning that most of it ends up tossed out. That moment was pivotal for Eve. Efforts to collect, sort and redistribute this prolific flow of materials became a mission: one that soon expanded to include a small community of others committed to our cause. The brand evelikesgreen evolved from there as a way to honour some of the most treasured pieces into useful, heirloom objects that tell a story. We produce couture table linens, pillows, quilts, and more. Some of these pieces were showcased at TODO 2016 in a group show called PRIMARY, hosted by Made Design, where our products are sold.

For this exhibition, Eve curates a show of displays and installations along with invited guest artists and makers. The materials themselves have inspired tangible examples of creative re-use; hope made visible.
