Description

fringe matter is an installation that draws from a larger body of work that explores a variety of repetitive and labour intensive processes and materials. Attracted to the abject and discarded I de-categorize them and remove established hierarchies with the intent of honouring their potential.

fringe matter is fluid, constantly unfolding and becoming, a physical manifestation of the raw emotions, sensations or behaviours that the collective we experience. It is through the slow awakening of the banal material that an entity is created, breathing life into the discarded. Bathed with a sense of the familiar, it fosters the relationship between it and viewer. Striving for a visceral response that could be easily triggered by its rich saturation of colour, palpable texture or its’ intriguing form that are simultaneously alluring and repellent. It possess it’s own liveliness and ability to engage and be engaged with, curiosity is heightened, suggesting it can change and shape shift into something else. Leaving little answered but much considered.
