Lorna Livey

Description

Lorna Livey exhibits work from her “Glow” series, atmospheric abstractions initially inspired by the compressed bands of colour viewed through airplane windows. Other sources were unexpected glimpses of late-afternoon light streaming through a window, a band of glowing white on the horizon between water and sky and shadows from venetian blinds. The lines and shapes she adds to the blended rolls create tension in the work, a push and pull between the solid and the nebulous. The art is a focus for meditation and contemplation. She creates a feeling of calmness, a sense of the ethereal and a space you can lost in—the heart of stillness.

In the north room of the gallery, Lorna has created an installation, “Reimagining Paper.” She makes three-dimensional vessels using linocut and etched proofs and discards. The images are fragmented and reassembled, retaining a history of the original. The resulting pieces are both archival and recyclable.
