This annual thematic exhibition brings together 12 artists and designers to consider the theme of matter.
‘Matter’ explores acts of material transformation and change. It considers the possibility of material memory in which use leaves a mark, whether visible or invisible; the history and future of recycling processes from a personal to a global scale; and the mundane and ritualistic aspects of material use and applications. ‘Matter’ asks the question: what happens when we take a long-term view of material life?
With works in wood, paper-rock, Styrofoam, stone, metal, ash, ceramic, reclaimed plastic, concrete, and film, the exhibition features the work of Brothers Dressler, Andrey Chernykh, Creators of Objects, Dear Human, Habiba El-Sayed, Nicholas Hamilton Holmes, Simon Johns, JP King, Olga Klosowski, Pamela Nelson, James Michael Shaw, and Studio Swine.
‘Matter’ is curated by the Toronto Design Offsite Festival, with jurors Janna Hiemstra and Lukus Toane. Funding is generously provided by the Ontario Arts Council, and gallery by Urbanspace Property Group.
