Integrated Design students at the Haliburton School of Art + Design have been thinking about “stuff” — particularly the stuff that we design, produce, consume, and throw away at an alarming rate. It weighs heavily on their collective unconscious. They acknowledge, however, that as human beings we are all reduced to skin and bones, in the end. Students have taken the human skeleton as inspiration for their design experiments and prototypes. Using ceramics, wood, metal, stone, fibre, recycled plastic/paper and 3D printing/lasercutting/CNC technology, design ideas are beginning to emerge.
They dream, communicate, collaborate, experiment, and apply the knowledge and skills that they develop in the Integrated Design program to become thinking and caring designers of the 21st century, whilst living amongst nature and breathing the clean country air of the Haliburton Highlands. As they find their centre(s) and begin to design their own lives, they are better prepared and able to design — in the immortal words of Charles and Ray Eames — the best, for the most, for the least.
Take action. Dream. Make it happen. Manifest reality in passionate fashion. Understand change in a way that is past due. Apply (yourself) today.
