Do Design highlights design culture in a vibrant neighborhood during Toronto design week. Bringing together contemporary design works from over 30 individuals working across many disciplines, the free, four day event is presented by the Trinity Bellwoods Business Area and reaches along Dundas Street West from Bathurst to Grace Streets.
The communal aspect of the event allows for variety, context and discovery of the design works presented in a surprising array of venues. Visitors are invited to explore the street as a “gallery” and engage with contemporary design in fresh ways. The hosting venues highlight the diversity of the neighbourhood itself and include boutiques, cafes, restaurants, lumber yard, architectural office, furniture showrooms and bars. Each space contributes collaboratively to the overall exhibition as designers are matched with venues in a complementary manner. In many cases the works on display blend in seamlessly with their exhibition environment in their form and function; others offer an engaging juxtaposition with the venue’s design and daily function.
Numerous pieces may be seen from the windows of venues outside of regular hours. Do Design will host a public opening reception on Saturday, January 28, to be held in various venues at staggered times. We are also excited to introduce a free guided tour of the venues and designs on Sunday, January 29 at 2 PM.
