Do Design 2013 highlights design in a vibrant neighborhood . Contemporary works from over 30 individuals and studios working across many disciplines are showcased in this unique event. The free, four day exhibit is presented by the Trinity Bellwoods Business Area reaching along Dundas Street West (Bathurst to Grace Street).
The communal aspect of Do Design allows for variety, context and discovery of design works presented in an array of venues. Visitors can explore the street as a “gallery” and engage with design in fresh ways. The venues highlight the diversity of the neighbourhood itself and include salons, cafes, a lumber yard, boutiques and bars. Many works blend with their temporary environment regarding style, intent or purpose. Others offer a surprising juxtaposition to their venue’s design and daily function.
Numerous works may be seen from outside after regular hours and a special outdoor project by Jade Rude reaches from Markham Street to Bellwoods Avenue. Visitors can pick up a postcard guide for Do Design at any participating business in the area. Early birds can grab a coffee and go from east to west or vice versa. Night owls might do a late fly by some window exhibits before settling into a local bar for the evening. Do Design is intended for everyone to tour and enjoy at their own pace.
