Do we want to see more locally designed and produced products in the marketplace?
Do we want to see an increase in local manufacturing?
Of course we do!
Encouraging local design and production by changing how manufacturers and designers work together, our exhibition shows how this collaboration produces beautiful, functional, and thoughtful pieces for the home. The exhibition will preview the first items created for Manufacturers + Designers Connect (M+Dc), and tell the story of each design and how it was produced.
M+Dc believes that it is vital to take the manufacturer into account at the beginning of the design process, so that local design and local production is more feasible, efficient, and fruitful. M+Dc carefully considers the manufacturer on many levels: materials, processes, capacity, and availability. These assessments present concrete guidelines that inspire the designer to create finished designs that are ready to produce. This makes local production possible while enabling the designer and manufacturer to do what they do best: bringing lovely and useful things into the world.
M+Dc was founded by Toronto designer Katharine Tessier, and includes new exclusive designs by Maiwenn Castellan, Alissa Coe, Derek McLeod, and Vincent Joseph Monastero.
Join us at our show at Milk Glass Co on Dundas Street West, January 24 to 27, to see the beautiful results of improved collaboration between local manufacturers and local designers.
