Volunteer With TO DO

— Volunteer Signup for the 2018 Festival is Now Closed —

As a non-profit organization, TO DO can’t exist without the dedicated contribution of seasonal volunteers. Join our amazing team of volunteers if you’re interested in networking, design, art, event planning, and customer service. We are seeking volunteers for the following roles during Festival Week, January 14-20, 2019.

Volunteers who complete 2 shifts receive a free TO DO Community Membership, valued at over $350.  Members receive a free Festival Party ticket, a 1/2 price Symposium ticket, and exclusive discounts at local shops, galleries, and museums.* Click here to learn more about membership benefits.

Most volunteer shifts happen weekday evenings, and on weekends (during the day and evening).

Volunteer Roles

Volunteers are responsible for assisting staff in the execution of our events and exhibitions. A single volunteer shift may include greeting and surveying the general public.


Bartenders are SmartServe Certified and help with many of our opening receptions. A typical shift is 4 hours. Dates and times vary. Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in this position.


Docents are representatives of the Festival at participating events and exhibitions across the city. They have general knowledge about the Festival, and are responsible for liaising with the general public. They hand out the printed Festival Guide, and also administer the Audience Survey. A typical shift is 3 hours. Dates and times vary.

Audience surveyor

Audience surveyors are paired with Docents at events and exhibitions with large audience attendance. They administer the Festival’s Audience Survey by engaging with the general public. A typical shift is 3 hours. Dates and times vary.

Event Registration

Event registration volunteers assist with signing in guests at ticketed events with a larger audience. They also hand out the printed Festival Guide and direct guests to the event. A typical shift is 3 hours. Dates and times may vary.

Festival Photographers

Festival Photographers make up a team of photographers that will act as the primary source of documentation during Festival Week. Festival photographers will be responsible for documenting assigned Festival events, signage, venues, people, etc. Photographers must have their own equipment, and available to photograph at least 3 events. Public Engagement Team

Often working outside, these volunteers will assist with providing printed Festival Guides to the public within key neighbourhoods of Festival exhibitions and events. A typical shift is 3 hours. Dates and times may vary.


* Volunteers receive their Community Membership in February 2019 if they fully complete 2 shifts, arrive on-time, and uphold the volunteer Code of Ethics. This means that Festival Week benefits are redeemable for the 2019 Festival.
